2025 – 5 Year Report

The NCSI Coalition 5-Year Report provides a comprehensive overview of the coalition’s progress, impact, and strategic growth since its founding in 2020. Starting with just 30 members, the coalition has expanded to over 330 members representing more than 120 organizations statewide. The report highlights the coalition’s mission to improve serious illness care in North Carolina through interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, and advocacy. Major accomplishments include the development of working groups focused on clinical practice, caregiver and patient engagement, communications, and public policy. The report reflects a maturing organization deeply rooted in collaboration and poised to continue its role as a leader in improving serious illness care across North Carolina.

2025 Year in Review

The North Carolina Serious Illness Coalition 2025 Year in Review highlights a year of continued growth, expanded partnerships, and statewide impact.

The Coalition strengthened programming through its monthly meetings and Friday Facts series, featuring leaders in caregiving, palliative care, policy, and innovation. A significant milestone included the Governor’s proclamation of April 2025 as Healthcare Decisions Month, reinforcing statewide commitment to advance care planning. Advocacy remained central, with policy efforts supporting family caregivers, expanding access to palliative care, and reducing barriers to completing and sharing advance directives. The NC Caregiving Collaborative advanced both state and national initiatives, including a comprehensive landscape analysis of caregiver resources across multiple counties and participation in federal advocacy efforts.

The 2025 Joining Our Voices Symposium convened 140 registrants to address dementia care, goal-aligned conversations, and the caregiving crisis.

2024 Year in Review

The NCSI Coalition – 2024 Year in Review highlights the coalition’s growth, achievements, and future plans.

The coalition facilitated monthly discussions on relevant topics like healthcare decision-making, effective advocacy, and support for caregivers. North Carolina’s proclamation of Healthcare Decisions Month in April underscored the coalition’s impact. Our 10 interns completed meaningful work in advance care planning, health equity, caregiving, social media and more.

The coalition’s signature event, the “Joining Our Voices Symposium”, drew 150+ participants and highlighted the caregiving crisis, the future of AI in caregiving, and personal stories to advocate for systemic change.

2023 Year in Review

The NCSI Coalition – 2023 Year in Review highlights significant achievements and initiatives from the past year.

Key initiatives included the introduction of an internship program, with 7 interns focused on clinical training, palliative care, health equity, caregiving policy, and more. The coalition hosted 20 episodes of its “Friday Facts” series, featuring experts from government, healthcare, and advocacy sectors. Monthly meetings addressed critical topics such as health equity, legislative updates, and social determinants of health. Advocacy efforts included Aging Day at the Legislature, and the Advocacy 101 series. Special events like the “Joining Our Voices” symposium elevated coalition goals, while projects such as “Changing the Care Conversation” personalized the issues through storytelling.

Celebrating two years in existence, the NC SI Coalition continues to advance initiatives at the state and local level to reflect the needs and evolutions in serious illness care for patients, family, caregivers, healthcare providers and professionals.
