Nora El-Khouri Spencer, MSW, GC, CAPS, President & CEO at Hope Renovations, joined Friday Facts on 12 May, 2023.
Nora El-Khouri Spencer, MSW is the founder and CEO of Hope Renovations. A 15-year corporate HR professional, Nora switched directions and pursued a Master of Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill, where she developed an interest in social entrepreneurship. In Summer 2020, Nora combined her workforce development expertise, her experience in the construction industry, and her passion for women’s empowerment to launch Hope Renovations, training women and non-binary folks for living-wage jobs while helping older adults live safely in their homes as they age.
Nora is a licensed NC Building Contractor and holds a Certified Aging in Place Specialist designation. She has received multiple honors for her work, including the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Woman of the Year Award, the Triangle Business Journal’s Women in Business Inspiration Award, and the UNC School of Social Work’s Distinguished Alumni award. Nora was recently recognized as one of the 2022 Top Ten CNN Heroes and is a recurring guest on the Drew Barrymore Show where she is known as “Nora the Tradeswoman”.
Nora is an avid Tar Heels and LA Dodgers fan, a Master Gardener and a beach addict. She lives in Chapel Hill with her husband Brian and several spoiled pets.
