Transitions LifeCare proudly presents An Act of Love: Talking with Your Family About Serious Illness and End of Life, a 25-minute documentary that explores the lived experiences of people in Black, African American, Hispanic, Latino and rural communities as they navigate their unique experiences with hospice and palliative care. Featuring personal stories from people in the Triangle area, the film sheds light on common misconceptions and the cultural silence that can surround end-of-life care.
Narrated by Grammy-nominated jazz artist Nnenna Freelon, the documentary amplifies a chorus of voices—families, caregivers, spiritual leaders, and healthcare professionals—offering a compassionate and multifaceted view of this critical time in life. These stories are especially vital in light of data from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), which reveals that Black Americans on Medicare utilize hospice and palliative care 13% less frequently than their white counterparts. This disparity underscores the urgent need for culturally sensitive outreach and education.
